Room 8's Mysteries and Clues Skits

In term three week five, Macleans Primary school had a book week. Room 8 came up with some little two minute plays or skits. Miss Churches put us into seven tiny groups of fours and put tonnes of options for the plays on the board for us to choose what play or skit we want to do. My group which was Oliver, Maggie, Kemuel and our group picked the two men and girl rob a bank teller saves the day play. Our groups play started off with me, Maggie, and Kemuel in a car driving to a bank and me and Kemuel ran into a door and then Maggie opened it for us. Us robbers creeped inside and ran over to the teller and screamed "give us the money!!!" "Okay how do you want all of it?" the teller said back to us. Then Oliver got a call from his mother who was asking about dinner and Oliver told his mum that he was robbing a bank. After the call we ran out the door with millions of dollars but before we reached the door teller shot me and Kemuel in the back and Maggie got away with the money. By Oliver Dawson

Self Directed Learning

WHAT IS SDL?

SDL stands for Self Directed Learning.

Students all have a task sheet with over fifteen activities and mostly about our topic. They also have a time table which is renewed every week. It gives the teacher to some time to test us and work with reading and writing groups. Students can do their work on their own and take more responsibility for their own learning. Some activities need computers so if there is no computers,we do another activity we can do on our own.

MYSTERIES AND CLUES

Our topic is mysteries and clues. Students have already written their three topic questions and have just started researching. All of our topics are about something that have not been solved, like Bigfoot, Lochness monster, stone henge, crop circles, Mary Celeste etc.

Marae Trip

Haere mai
Haere mai
Haere mai

Room 8 learnt lots of stuff at the marae (Te Tahawai Marae) like stories of tikis and gods.We also learnt that flax patterns tell lots of stores, that each carving is an ancestor, and that if a tiki is holding a god stick its a god.We also learnt that Maui is a demi god. If a tiki has paua eyes its a warrior and if it's eyes are closed its a magician.

When we arrived at the marae we needed to wait at the gate for the caller to come and call us in.When we were in front of the marae we took of our shoes and socks and we went inside. We sat on the right of the marae. On the left of the wharae was Whaea Jill and Whaea Lola.Whaea Lola said welcome.Later Khusrav and Tristan said there mihis and then we sang a song (na iwi e).
Whaea Jill and Whaea Lola said there thank you's and we continued:)

We washed our hands and we had a little bit to eat. When we finished our food we got split into 2 groups (Room 8 and Room 11).Room 8 (us) went with Whaea Jill to the gate to see the tikis in front. We learnt that they were gods because of the god sticks. We needed to go on a special path because of the god of war. We went in side to look at the tikis inside. We found out every tiki is an ancestor and one side of the marae.

We had a lot of fun at the marae and I wish that day never ended

Sailing

On Wednesday 19th February, Room 8 was lucky to have the opportunity to go sailing thanks to Bucklands Beach Sailing Club. Room 8 had an awesome time learning all about the Optimist boats and having a go at sailing them at Little Bucks. We all did so well, and many of us capsized out boats! We even had the chance to go for a bit of a swim after.

Overall it was an exciting morning and we all learnt so much about sailing.
